Tuf Lady Liberty is a '04 bay tobiano mare that is on a lease from Swenson's Paints in California.  She's taller than my more cutting and reining bred mares, standing an easy 15.1 or maybe a bit more.  She's very pretty headed and has a lovely long clean neck accented by an 18 inch mane.  She looked more like an English type horse on arrival but then grew a hair more and filled out to look like a good stout roper.  She has a big long hip and excellent bone.  And she's colorful.  She's the third of three mares all sired by Tuf N Lucky Doc, a son of APHA Ch Helter Skelter (by APHA Supreme Ch Lucky Straw) out of a Dee Bar Doc mare.   Liberty's dam goes back to the great QH stallion Quincy Dan, sire of some top halter horses in his day and still considered to be one of the best sires of good ranch horses in the NW. 

 

The lease agreement on this mare was that she be started under saddle and ready to trail ride when she goes home after having her foal and weaning it.  Liberty was found to be very smart, very quick but also somewhat anxious about new things.  It took a lot of ground work to get her attention focused on her handler and she's very reactive to anything around her.  She did well though and we started riding last fall.  The winter weather was pretty ugly and there is no indoor riding facility here so we didn't do much during the winter.  With her pregnancy we didn't ride this spring.  Liberty foaled a chestnut tobiano filly who is lovely.  Her owner has moved to a new location and has indicated that Liberty could be sold rather than go back home so she's officially for sale.  Her filly will be weaned in mid-September and I'm hoping to get a couple more weeks of riding on her before she goes to a new home somewhere.  Her filly can be seen to the right and on the '08 foals page and the sales horses page.
