Calbar Lena

Calbar Lena, or "Callie", came to us from Idaho by way of Lotta Woods Ranch.  She is a wonderfully sweet mare with the kindest of hearts...and a great addition to the breeding program here.  She's a hair under 15 hands and weighs a solid 1200 pounds when not pregnant.  She's especially colorful as she shows characteristics of tobiano, splash white and possibly sabino patterning.  A rich bay with some roaning (not clear if that is from sabino or rabicano) and one blue eye, she's a big bodied mare who absolutely loves having her butt scratched.

Callie's sire is Lena's Sonny Boy, a QH stallion who is a son of the great Doc O'Lena by Doc Bar.  Sonny is out of a daughter of Okie Leo who in turn was out of a daughter of Royal King.  Sonny was a finalist at cutting futurities, at cutting derbies, was the sire of cutting, reining and working cowhorses with both points and monies earned and was reportedly syndicated for $1.5 million.

Callie's dam, Remegem Sally, is a working cowhorse with money earnings as well and was the reserve champion at a reined cowhorse futurity we're told.

Callie's granddam was a horse we bought at the same time that we bought Callie and was a proven producing mare with a terrific pedigree for a Paint bred at the time she was.  Her last foal, a bay tobiano colt, belongs to friends of mine and is now a terrific Heel horse for them.

Callie has been a terrific mother for us producing nice foals with good minds.  Her foals may be seen  here to the right and on the  "Foals" page.

Above is Callie's first foal, a filly by Ima Streakin Doc.

Callie's '07 foal was a solid by with just a star, sired by Muchacho Pintero....

Here is Callie's '08 foal....born at 4:45am on Tuesday, May 13.  He's a big foal, very colorful (has one partial blue eye on the left) and is friendly and curious at the age of 2 hours when these were taken.

Here is this colt at the age of 2 months..

This colt is now, in 2011, headed to reined cowhorse training and will likely stay here to replace his sire, Muchacho Pintero, in our breeding plans.

Callie wasn't bred for '09 or '10 foals but was bred for an '11 foal...and had another solid bay, this one sired by Ima Streakin Doc and also having only a star.  Here she is......

Odd little star

She'll be bred in '12 to the new homozygous tobiano stallion so check in in '13 and see what she has then (50% chance it will be HZ!)
