"Pintero" is a sorrel tobiano Paint stallion standing right at 15 hands and weighing in around 1100 pounds.  He has terrific bone and a wonderful disposition (he loves his butt scratched and will follow you around asking for this...politely).  He arrived in Nevada from Arkansas in the summer of 2005 when he was 13 years old.   He is an absolute sweetheart and lives in the large mare corral with his herd of ladies where he supervises them and their foals and enjoys the life of "herd stallion".

Pintero has an awesome pedigree that you can access via the link under his photo above.  He's one of only a handful of Paints with horses on his three generation pedigree like Docs Muchacho, Doc Quixote, Three Ohs and Mora Leo.

Pintero started out in training for cutting and got an injury to his left lower jaw with some nerve damage.  His lower lip is droopy and he doesn't feel things well on that side of his muzzle.  I'm told that he later, after healing from this injury, was used for roping for awhile.  And one summer as a rodeo pick up horse.  Since being here he's had a pretty easy life.  He has been ridden a couple of times but not often and not for any length of time.  He was purchased mostly for breeding and he's doing an excellent job of that.

Pintero's first two foals here in Nevada were solids... not the most auspicious beginning.  One of them unfortunately was playing, slipped on a damp spot and fell and fractured his skull, dying very quickly.  The other is a bay colt out of a Doc O'Lena granddaughter and is friendly, curious, very smart and very willing to try things.  My second crop of foals is now here with the first one a blue eyed bay tobiano colt....very striking looking and already friendly and curious.  You can see these babies to the right as well as on the foal page.

This sweet stallion is a heterozygous tobiano so can sire solids.  He's red based so could sire palomino to a cream dilute mare.  He has no crosses to Poco Bueno so is another stallion that should pose no risk of being a HERDA carrier although we will be testing shortly and results will be posted.

Pintero is a bit shy and is a southern gentleman at heart....he doesn't breed when anyone can see him.  I got two foals the first year I used him and five the second year and have not yet seen him cover a mare.  He appears to get his job done however.  As a result Pintero will only be pasture bred here at home.
